Gulf Shores Police arrest two in suspected robbery at store

Pair said to be trying to steal from Diamond Jewelers

Suspect arrested in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on burglary charges.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After responding to a burglary in progress call at Diamond Jewelers on East 20th Avenue, Gulf Shores police found there was forcibly entry but that nothing was taken.


On Jan. 1, 2023 at approximately 12:07 a.m. Officers from the Gulf Shores Police Department responded to Diamond Jewelers at 108 E. 20th Ave. The suspects were no longer on scene but officers were able to quickly determine the vehicle the suspects used to flee the scene. Officers stopped the suspect vehicle and detained both occupants.  Those occupants were identified as:


  • Ricardo Fabian Soto-Vargas, 34, address unknown


  • Sebastian Vilches, 36 address unknown


Both were arrested and have been charged with Burglary third degree, possession of burglary tools and possession of marijuana. Both are currently being at the Baldwin County Jail on these charges with an Immigration hold due to verification that they have entered the United States illegally. 


Investigators are working with multiple law enforcement agencies to determine if Soto-Vargas and Vilches have connections to a South American theft ring that is responsible for similar crimes throughout the United States.

As Alabama prepares to buy the bridge at the southern end of the Foley Beach Express, city officials are continuing plans to improve the route before it becomes a state highway. The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced plans to buy the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Orange Beach. State officials said the toll over the bridge will be eliminated when the purchase is completed.

On Sunday afternoon, April 28th, the Gulf Shores Police responded to a robbery at the Arby's located at 1515 Gulf Shores Parkway. The incident occurred at 3:33 PM, when a man threatened an employee with what appeared to be a semi-automatic pistol. He demanded money and car keys.

UPDATE: Lauren Davidson Has been found. ----------------------------- Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The Gulf Shores Police are actively searching for Lauren Davidson, a 58-year-old woman reported missing since yesterday morning, April 28th. Davidson was last seen around 5:12 AM near Bay John Condominiums at 4297 County Road 6.
