Gulf Coast Cities Holiday Closures

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Cities of Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Foley have announced holiday schedules affecting municipal operations during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. The closures impact non-essential city offices, along with adjustments to garbage and recycling collection. The service changes vary by city and by holiday week. Residents are encouraged to review local schedules in advance to avoid missed collections or delays. Some public facilities will remain accessible despite the office closures.


City of Orange Beach

In Orange Beach, all non-essential city offices will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, December 24–26, 2025, for the Christmas holiday. City offices will also be closed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, in observance of New Year’s Day. The city reported that trash routes will be adjusted for both holiday weeks. Friday routes will run on Saturday, while recycling collection will continue on its normal Wednesday schedule.

City of Gulf Shores

The City of Gulf Shores will also close non-essential offices for Christmas and New Year’s. For Christmas, all non-essential city offices will be closed December 24–25. For New Year’s, all non-essential city offices will be closed from December 31 through January 1. City officials stated that for both holiday periods, trash and recycling collection routes will run one day behind their regular schedule.


Gulf Shores noted that the City of Gulf Shores Recycling Center will remain open for drop-offs during both holiday periods. Yard debris and bulky pick-up routes for Christmas week will run Monday, December 22, through Tuesday, December 23, and Friday, December 26. For the New Year’s period, yard debris and bulky pick-up routes will run Monday, December 29, through Tuesday, December 30, and Friday, January 2.


According to the city, the Tennis and Pickleball courts in Gulf Shores will stay open and available for play during the holidays. City officials said all city offices will return to normal business hours on Friday, December 26, after the Christmas break. Offices will again return to normal hours on Friday, January 2, following the New Year’s closure. For questions about Gulf Shores closures, residents are asked to contact 251-968-2425.


City of Foley

In Foley, non-emergency City of Foley offices will be closed Wednesday through Friday, December 24–26, for the Christmas holidays. The city announced several changes to sanitation service for that week. Recycling will not be picked up during the week of Christmas, and recycling collection will resume on Monday, December 29.


Foley officials reported that Tuesday and Wednesday garbage will instead be picked up on Monday, December 22. Thursday and Friday garbage will be picked up on Tuesday, December 23. The city noted that limbs, yard debris, and bulk collection will start back where crews left off before the holiday break. Residents are being asked to be patient, as these routes may run behind all week until sanitation staff are caught up.
