Foley Residents Urged to Vote in Upcoming City Election
Polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Civic Center

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley residents will soon decide who will represent them on the City Council and as mayor for the next four years. City leaders are calling on voters to participate, noting that local elections help determine decisions on roads, improvements, and growth. Four of the five City Council seats are contested, giving many residents multiple candidates to choose from in their districts.
The municipal election will be held August 26 at the Foley Civic Center. Mayor Ralph Hellmich is running unopposed for re-election, while Roddy Burkle has no opposition for the District 3 City Council seat. In the 2020 Census, Foley’s population was 20,335, including 16,086 residents of voting age. The total number of votes cast in the mayor’s race that year was 1,260.
Hellmich said only a small percentage of registered voters usually cast ballots in local contests. He stressed the importance of higher participation and noted that municipal elections do not have long lines like presidential races. City leaders say decisions made by new council members will guide how Foley develops during the coming term.
As of July 27, 2025, Foley had 20,193 registered voters, according to the
Alabama Secretary of State’s Office. That total included 17,095 active voters and 3,098 inactive voters who have not cast ballots in the last four years.
Residents can confirm voter registration at the Alabama Secretary of State’s website. Information about which City Council district a resident lives in is available on the
city’s website.
