Kiva Dunes Golf Course, located in Gulf Shores, has garnered global acclaim, consistently ranking among the premier golf courses in the US. Renowned golf champion, course architect, and golf buddy since undergrad of Kiva’s owner, Jim “Scrappy” Edgemon, Jerry Pate recalls his initial encounter with the site in 1985, stating, “I remember thinking at the time, ‘Golf architects would kill for this piece of property.’” Leveraging that bonus with his extensive experience in land design, Pate crafted a layout recognized as one of the sport's most distinguished and challenging courses. And the best news is that Kiva Dunes welcomes overnight guests to experience its high-caliber links and offers public access with flexible options for 9, 18, or 36 holes. Conveniently reserve tee times, specify group sizes, and select your preferred course configuration through the online booking system. This luxurious facility has become a coveted destination, attracting players worldwide who seek to test their skills on its unique and respected layout. Now, it's your turn to get out there and enjoy it too.

Residents will tell you that the unique small-town characteristics of Orange Beach resonate not only in the neighborhoods but also in the commercial areas, each defined by its distinct atmosphere. These localized sections—whether residential neighborhoods or commercial strips—contribute to the overall vibrancy of the area, offering various activities and amenities that can keep visitors engaged for extended periods throughout the day. For example, you could start your day on the west side of Highway 161 by visiting the Orange Beach History Museum, which is open from 9 AM to 4 PM. Here, you can explore the town's evolution from a pre-civilized fishing village to its current state. Afterward, take a moment to remember those who were lost and admire the craftsmanship and vision of the community at the Veterans Memorial right next door. You could either pack a lunch for a picnic in the park or work up an appetite by taking a walk through Gulf State Park, where two trailheads including the Back Country Trail are conveniently located on that side. Continue your stroll all the way to the end of the road, which is less than a mile from your starting point, and visit the Orange Beach Store for some prime local merchandise. Just across the street, you’ll find CoastAL, where they have their own shop offering island-themed goods, located next to a restaurant where you can settle in and enjoy a lovely meal and refreshing beverage while taking in one of the most beautiful views and sunsets around. This low-maintenance day trip will guide you through some of the best parts of Orange Beach's many unique vibes and is all doable by car, bike or walking. Enjoy your time and keep exploring all that this extraordinary town has to offer!

Two years ago, a brilliant idea sparked when a group of people got together to compete in an exhilarating paddle board competition. The concept was a hit, filled with thrills and enticing prizes that kept everyone on their toes and eager for more. This year marks the 3rd Annual Paddle Dash with Flora-Bama. For a $20 entry fee, participants receive a t-shirt, breakfast, and the opportunity to paddle their hearts out for a chance to be among the top three winners in their division, each winning a Flora-Bama gift card. Check-in begins at 7 AM, with the Paddle Dash starting at approximately 7:30 AM. There is still time to sign up, and plenty of opportunity to come out and enjoy watching the send-off from Ole River Grill beach and paddle back from the Ono Island Bridge, a 2-mile race competition. You might even scout your strategy to participate next year.

While we may not experience every season here on the Gulf Coast, we certainly participate in annual events throughout the year, like we do. This month, locals and regular visitors are excited for Luna’s Annual Oktoberfest, where the only things likely to be served cold are the beverages! Staying true to tradition, this festival will feature modern polka music performed by The Brats. Join in for a day filled with delicious German-inspired food and Oktoberfest-style beers and wines served on the lawn from 1-5PM. You’ll also find games, a stein-hoisting competition, and attendees dressed for the occasion. The entry fee is $15 for those aged 21 and up and includes your first beer or wine, a keepsake glass, a Luna’s koozie, and all the day's entertainment. This is a fantastic opportunity to enjoy great food and company in an open-air venue with fun and games. Who knows, you might even get a pleasantly cooler temperature—but if not, just grab another cold drink. Daily menu options and inside dining will continue during regular times and are not a part of the festival. This year, Luna’s Oktoberfest has partnered with MAAAC, the Makos Arts, Academics, and Athletic Club, where part of the proceeds will benefit the Orange Beach city school system through this group. So come out and enjoy the day, bring the family, dress up, and do it all to benefit several great causes for our local schools.
