Foley Public Library Expands Free Computer Training Programs for Community

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Foley Public Library is making technology more accessible to residents through an expanded computer instruction program. The library's Computer Lab now offers free one-on-one tutoring sessions, group classes, and educational seminars designed to help people of all skill levels. These programs are open to everyone in the community, not just library cardholders. The initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and help residents feel more confident using modern technology.

The library will host its next free seminar on Thursday, November 20, from 2 to 3 p.m. The session, titled "What is Streaming," will introduce participants to streaming media platforms and services. Attendees will learn what streaming is, which platforms are available, and how to make the switch from traditional media to streaming services.

The one-on-one tutoring sessions last between 45 minutes and one hour. These personalized lessons cover a wide range of topics to meet individual needs. Participants can get help with personal devices including cell phones, laptops, and tablets. The sessions also cover popular library apps like Libby, Hoopla, and Mango.

Computer Lab instructors provide training on productivity software such as Microsoft Office and Google Suites. They also teach basic computer skills for beginners who are just starting their technology journey. The flexible format allows learners to focus on exactly what they need to know.

People interested in scheduling a one-on-one session have two convenient options. They can call the Computer Lab directly at (251) 943-7665, extension 409 or 414. They can also visit the Computer Lab desk in person on the library's second floor.

The Computer Lab has previously offered classes and seminars on various technology topics. Past sessions have included Computer Basics for beginners, Introduction to Microsoft Office for workplace skills, Cyber Security to protect personal information, and Introduction to Google Suite for cloud-based productivity.

The upcoming streaming seminar requires advance registration. Interested participants can register by visiting
foleylibrary.org  and clicking on the Events Calendar. The calendar also lists other upcoming technology programs and library events. Anyone with questions can call the Computer Lab at the numbers listed above.

Library officials emphasize that all computer instruction programs are completely free. There is no charge for one-on-one tutoring sessions, group classes, or educational seminars. The library created these programs to ensure everyone in the community has access to technology education.
