Foley Planning Commission to consider modification to planned unit development for Live Oak Village

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The Foley Planning Commission will meet in a work session on Dec. 6 and a regular session on Dec. 13 both at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall. During the meeting, the commission will also:

 

Hear a request to extend the site plan for West Laurel Avenue Apartments for one year for Courtney Harris on 1.93 acres at 524 W. Laurel Avenue west of Dyke’s Veterinary Clinic. Staff will recommend approval of the extension.

 

Hear a request to subdivide 38.11 acres into two lots in the Bedsole Moseley Subdivision located at the southwest corner of Underwood Road and County Road 55 located in the city of Foley planning jurisdiction. Staff will recommend approval.

 

Consider a request to resubdivide one lot and replat another of Woerner’s Two Lots located north of the new Juniper Street Extension and east of South McKenzie Street. The applicant is GMC Daphne and staff will recommend approval.

 

Discuss the original zoning for 170 acres of the recently annexed Mills community located north of U.S 98 and west of County Road 65. The request is to zone it for single-family and duplexes and open space. Staff will recommend approval.

 

Hear a request for initial zoning of four acres in the recently annexed Mills community to open space/preservation district for a city park. It is located east of Mills Road and north of Breckner Road and staff will recommend approval.

 

Hear a request for a modification to the planned unit development for Live Oak Village located west of Cedar Street and north of West Peachtree Avenue. The request involves 148.5 acres and revisions include adding 93 townhomes, 32 apartments in four buildings, 52 climate-controlled storage units and 26 lots for patio homes. Staff will recommend approval.

 

Consider the 2024 bylaws for the planning commission and have an election of the 2024 officers.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach is set to host the inaugural NEST Fest on May 25th from 11am to 3pm on Bird Island. This event aims to blend recreation with conservation, promoting awareness for native, migrating, and nesting shorebirds. Organized by City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources Division, NEST Fest will be a day filled with educational activities, live music, and community engagement.
ALDOT Announces Traffic Plan for Beach Express Bridge

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) has announced a new traffic control plan for the Baldwin Beach Express Bridge, effective at noon on Thursday, May 23. With the removal of toll collections, it is crucial for motorists to familiarize themselves with the changes in traffic patterns (see article graphic). This transition period will require patience and cooperation from all drivers to ensure a smooth flow of traffic; especially since it’s taking place on Memorial Weekend, one of the busiest weekends of the season.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Orange Beach City Council will convene for a joint regular/work session on May 21 at 4 p.m. in the council chambers at city hall. The agenda for the regular session includes a variety of items such as a report on city expenditures totaling $2.5 million, a presentation by Ally Mavar, the Orange Beach contestant in the Miss Alabama Volunteer Scholarship Pageant, and the consideration of proclamations for National Cities, Towns and Villages Month and Building Safety Month.
East Verbena Avenue Improvements Will Not Shut Down Area Parking

Work on improvements on East Verbena Avenue will begin soon, but businesses along the road will remain open and parking will be available. The project is planned to improve lighting, parking and drainage as well as work on the roadway. The East Verbena Improvement Project includes reshaping existing parking stalls and making improvements to the concrete, landscaping and right of way near the eastern side of Alabama 59.
