Hollis Furniture and Foley Hotel Receive Foley's Beautification Accolades

The city of Foley presented the 2023 Beautification Award to Hollis Interiors and Furniture. The downtown building is located on South McKenzie Street.

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – In a recent ceremony, the City of Foley honored two historic downtown establishments with the 2023 Beautification Awards. Hollis Furniture, located on South McKenzie Street, and the Foley Hotel building on East Laurel Avenue were the recipients of this year's accolades.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich expressed gratitude to the awardees for their contributions to the city's aesthetics. "The City of Foley, our council, and the Revitalization Advisory Board value your efforts. These improvements are not without cost, and we acknowledge that the funding comes from your own pockets," Hellmich said.

The city of Foley presented the 2023 Beautification Award to The Foley Hotel building. The downtown building is located on East Laurel Avenue.

Constructed in 1927, the Foley Hotel currently accommodates various retail businesses and offices. The building stands at the intersection of East Laurel Avenue and South Alston Street. Mayor Hellmich commended the recent exterior renovations undertaken by the building's owner, Frances Holk-Jones, stating that the improvements have significantly enhanced the downtown area.

In a related development, the Caboose Club, responsible for the model train display at the Foley Depot Museum, has crafted a scale model of the Foley Hotel. The model, which replicates the building's appearance in the early 1930s, features accurate scaling and lighting.

Wayne Hollis of Hollis Interior and Furniture also received recognition. Hollis praised the city for maintaining a favorable business environment over the 70 years his family has operated the store. "The cooperation between the city and businesses here in Foley has always been exceptional, and I am grateful for that," Hollis said.
