Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge Project Hits Major Construction Milestone
Construction crews are more than halfway through the project timeline, with completion set for January 2027
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Construction on the Waterway Village Pedestrian Bridge in Gulf Shores is progressing steadily. The project has completed 53.6% of its planned timeline. Work is underway on multiple parts of the project simultaneously. The city states this effort is part of making Gulf Shores "a safer, more walkable community."
Crews have been busy on several fronts recently. ALT 1 was reopened to normal traffic on Sunday, March 1. Construction of ALT 2 entrances, curbs, and sidewalks is expected to continue through the end of March. Access north of the Intracoastal Waterway remains open to local traffic only during the ALT 2 construction phase.
On the roadway side, concrete and roadway teams are finishing up work on ALT 1. Final touches include remaining sod, parking bumpers, and permanent signage. On the east side of ALT 2, crews are still working on curbs, sidewalks, and entrances.
The bridge structure is also making significant progress this week. The contractor is scheduled to pour the third vertical section of the South Bridge columns. On the north side, the bridge pile cap is currently curing, and workers have started installing the rebar for the columns.
Elevator tower work is progressing on both sides of the project. The North Elevator Tower Pile Cap is curing, and crews expect to start vertical wall concrete work by midweek. Work also continues on the internal slabs and components of the South Elevator Tower.
Looking ahead over the next two weeks, crews will continue progressing on the South Elevator Tower and South Bridge columns. Construction of the North Bridge Columns and North Elevator Tower Walls is scheduled to start in mid-March. Roadway work on ALT 2 will also proceed for the rest of the month.
The project's expected completion date remains January 8, 2027. City officials have thanked residents for their patience during the construction process.
