Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Have you ever heard of the Nowhere Bar in Athens, Georgia? Maybe you have driven by the No Name Pub in Pine Key, Florida. The Editors of Southern Living magazine picked their favorite southern dive bars and the legendary Flora-Bama made the list.
Southern Living writer Kaitlyn Yarborough stated "In the South, the definition of a dive bar is anything but strict, with historic dimly lit dives, breezy sand-floored tiki spots, old-school piano bars, beloved college town haunts, and almost anywhere you can find a cheap drink and live music on any given night able to make the cut."
The Flora-Bama made the Editor's Best Dive Bar list. They wrote that this eclectic honky-tonk and oyster bar touts itself as one of America’s last great roadhouses. Of course the article goes on to mention the Flora-Bama's famous location, Mullet Toss and famed Bushwackers.
Since 1964, the Flora-Bama has been considered a beachfront honky tonk. A dive bar that welcomes patrons of all types. "You never know who you will see at the Flora-Bama" is one of the famous quotes locals say of the legendary bar.
The Alabama coast has numerous spots where you can enjoy a cocktail and hear local musicians. You can vote for your favorite HERE.
As you work your way through the list and finally end at the Dixie Chicken in College Station, you can start locally and visit the legendary Flora-Bama beach bar where locals have seen Kenny Chesney, Post Malone, Luke Combs and Riley Green, just to name a few. If they are not there when you visit then catch local celebrities like Big Earl and Tim Roberts on one of the stages.
