Elberta Man Charged with Rape After Allegedly Luring Teen Through Snapchat
Authorities say the suspect used social media to contact a 15-year-old before bringing the victim across state lines
Elberta, Ala. — (OBA) — An Elberta man faces multiple felony charges after authorities say he used Snapchat to contact a 15-year-old. Julio Perez Jr. was arrested following a joint investigation by two agencies. He allegedly brought the teen from Florida to his home. Officials are warning parents about the dangers of social media.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office and the Robertsdale Police Department led the investigation. It started in March 2026 when deputies responded to assist Robertsdale police. Authorities determined that Perez contacted the minor through Snapchat. He then transported the victim from Florida to his Elberta residence.
Both parties admitted to engaging in unlawful sexual acts at the home, according to investigators. On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, investigators conducted a formal interview with Perez. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
Perez faces charges of second-degree rape, second-degree sodomy, and traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act. Officials said additional charges could be filed as the investigation is ongoing.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office urged anyone with information or assistance in identifying unknown victims to come forward. The agency and its law enforcement partners reiterated their commitment to locating and apprehending individuals involved in illegal online activities.
Authorities are urging parents and guardians to stay actively involved in their children's digital lives. Social media platforms can expose minors to people who may misrepresent themselves, officials warned. Adults should regularly review their children's online activity and understand which apps they use.
Law enforcement emphasized that effective communication between parents and children is crucial. Parents should encourage children to report any concerning or uncomfortable interactions. Meeting someone from the internet without supervision is never safe, officials stated. Staying attentive and involved is vital for safeguarding children.
