Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Sunday afternoon, February 18th, law enforcement officials from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Claremont Drive in Foley following reports of a domestic situation involving severe injuries. Upon their arrival, deputies encountered a scene where a young child and her mother suffered significant burn injuries. The subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male. The Baldwin County Sheriff’s office provided the details in a press release, below.

On February 18, 2024, around 4:30 p.m., Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Claremont Drive in the unincorporated area of Foley, Alabama, to investigate a domestic incident. This incident was called in by a third party, who alleged that a young child had been burned by a fire at the location.

Patrol deputies arrived quickly and located a six-year-old girl and her mother across the street at a neighbor’s house. Both were suffering from significant burns and were taken to a local hospital for treatment. They are currently in stable condition.

Our preliminary investigation has revealed that a 17-year-old male, who lived at the incident location, intentionally pushed the 6-year-old into the fire, causing her injuries. Her mother sustained burns while rescuing her daughter from the flames. It is unclear what led to this unfortunate incident, and our investigators are actively following leads to determine exactly what occurred.

The 17-year-old male has been arrested on the charges of Attempted Murder and Assault in the Second Degree. This investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing. The suspect in this case is in custody, and there are no other threats in that area.
