Orange Beach Welcomes School Resource Officers' Gathering

Orange Beach, Ala. - (OBA) - The Alabama Association of School Resource Officers (TAASRO) is holding an event at the Orange Beach Event Center, a premier venue known for hosting a variety of occasions from corporate conferences to trade shows, seminars, sporting events, and more. The Event Center, situated at the base of the Beach Express and Canal Road in Orange Beach, boasts 18,000 square feet of rentable space.
The TAASRO event is scheduled to run from Monday, June 5, 2023, starting at 8:00 am, to Friday, June 9, 2023, ending at 3:00 pm.
TAASRO is a dedicated organization serving and protecting the students, faculties, and communities within Alabama. It aims to build a partnership between law enforcement, students, and faculty, focusing on providing a positive and safe learning environment. The association works to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students, faculty, and staff, and serves as a professional resource to students, faculty, the community, and other law enforcement agencies. It brings all school-based programs such as D.A.R.E., G.R.E.A.T., and P.A.L. together to work collaboratively. Additionally, TAASRO aims to create an informational forum of law enforcement for continuing educational development and to provide an association that ensures a proactive, problem-solving approach to school crises.
The opening keynote speaker for the event on Monday was Dr. Bernie James, a Professor of Law at the Caruso School of Law. With an extensive background in law and education, Dr. James is perfectly suited to address the TAASRO event. He teaches courses in Civil Rights, Federalism, Individual Rights, Education Law, State Constitutional Law, and Introduction to American Law. Before joining the Pepperdine faculty in 1984, Dr. James served in Michigan as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Judge Myron Wahls for the Court of Appeals.
Dr. James is also an author and consultant, having written the textbook “Education POLICY AND THE LAW: CASES AND COMMENTARY”. He also serves as a consultant to the US Department of Justice, co-authoring “SHARING INFORMATION: A GUIDE TO FERPA AND PARTICIPATION IN JUVENILE JUSTICE PROGRAMS”. He extends into school safety, where he contributes as an editor to the Journal of School Safety. Furthermore, he also maintains the School Safety Law Blog, a platform that compiles legislation, judicial decisions, and school policy reforms relating to school safety and student rights.
The event promises to be an insightful and informative experience for attendees, providing them with the opportunity to learn from industry professionals like Dr. James and to network with peers dedicated to school safety.
