Orange Beach Schools React to Severe Storm Forecast with Safety Measures

Severe Weather Threat

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – In response to the imminent severe weather forecast for our area, Orange Beach City Schools has announced a delay in school start times for Tuesday. William R. Wilkes, on behalf of the Emergency Management Agency, has informed parents of the expected severe weather conditions, including isolated thunderstorms and a significant squall line, which pose potential threats including strong tornadoes and damaging wind gusts.

Prioritizing student and staff safety, the school district has revised the start times and transportation schedules for Orange Beach Elementary School and Orange Beach Middle/High School.

Dear Parents,

During the 11 AM meeting, the Emergency Management Agency said we should expect the following.

● The first round of storms will consist of isolated and scattered thunderstorms lifting northward after 10 PM tonight and continuing until the squall line moves through.

● The second round will be a squall line moving in after 2 AM Tuesday and proceeding eastward, clearing by early morning.

  • All modes of severe weather (including strong tornadoes and significantly damaging wind gusts) are possible with both rounds.

As always, the safety of our students and staff continues to be our top priority. Due to the timing of the event and the lack of daylight to evaluate facilities and road access, Orange Beach City Schools will delay the start of schools as follows.

●     Orange Beach Elementary School - 9:00 AM

●     Orange Beach Middle/High School - 9:30 AM

  • Bus pick-up times will be (approximately) 1 hour and 15 minutes later than normal.
  • A grab-and-go breakfast will be provided.

All non-transportation employees should report to work at 8:30 AM. All Tuesday afternoon and evening events will be as normal.

We will continue to monitor, and should matters change, you will be notified.

Sincerely!

William R. Wilkes
