Orange Beach, Ala. - (OBA) - The Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach is set to host a National Day of Prayer observance on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at noon. The event welcomes everyone from the community to join in prayer, led by local church pastors, on the center's shaded front lawn.
The National Day of Prayer, established in 1952 through a joint resolution of Congress and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman, has since been observed annually. In 1988, the law was amended unanimously by both the House and the Senate, and President Ronald Reagan signed it into law, designating the first Thursday of May as a day of national prayer. Every president since 1952 has signed a National Day of Prayer proclamation.
