Memorial Day Closures for Orange Beach & Gulf Shores
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – As the cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores prepare to commemorate Memorial Day, municipal offices and many public facilities will be closed or operating on modified schedules this weekend, including Memorial Day, Monday, May 27th.
Memorial Day is a time to pause and honor the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces to protect our freedoms and democracy.
Below are the modified schedules for Orange Beach and Gulf Shores.
The City of Orange Beach made the following announcement:
In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, city offices and non-essential facilities will be closed on Monday, May 27th. Normal business operations will resume on Tuesday, May 28th. Trash and recycling will not be affected. All routes will run as normal.
The City of Orange Beach honors and remembers all the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect and preserve the freedoms we enjoy every day.
The City of Gulf Shores made the following announcement:
Memorial Day – A day to honor our veterans and those who have lost their lives
defending our freedom and democracy.
Please see the following City of Gulf Shores closures in honor of Memorial Day:
- Police, fire, and other emergency services will remain open to ensure public safety and health.
- Administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, May 28, at 8 a.m.
- The Thomas B. Norton Public Library will be closed on Monday, May 27. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, May 28, at 10 a.m.
- The Gulf Shores Museum will be closed from Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27. Regular operation hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
- The Bodenhamer Recreation Center will remain open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, May 27.
- The Cultural Center will be closed on Monday, May 27. Regular operation hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
- The George C. Meyer Tennis Center will be closed on Monday, May 27. Courts will be open and available for public use. Regular operation hours will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
- The pickleball courts located at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open and available for public use.
- The City Store will be closed on Monday, May 27. Regular operations will resume on Tuesday, May 28.
- Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Services will run as scheduled. Yard debris/bulky pickup will run as scheduled.
- The Gulf Shores City Council Meeting has been rescheduled for Tuesday, May 28, at 4 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach Fire Rescue has announced a new Life Jacket Loaner Station at Alabama Point East. Funded by the Sea Tow Foundation, this station offers free life jackets for residents and visitors of Orange Beach.
The life jackets are available in sizes from infant to Adult XL. They are intended for swimmers, boaters, and all water users to prevent drowning and ensure safety.
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf Shores voted to approve an amendment to a contract with Jade Consulting adding $28,700 in design costs to a budding city project to make improvements along Windmill Ridge Road, West Fourth Street and a portion of West First Avenue.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Access for pedestrians along Alabama 59 and in other areas of Foley will soon improve following actions by the City Council.
The council voted Monday, June 3, to seek funding for more than one mile of sidewalk along Alabama 59. The city will apply for a grant through the Alabama Department of Transportation’s Transportation Alternatives Program.
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The City of Gulf Shores has announced their 2024 lineup for the Summer Music at Meyer Park concert series. These free concerts will kick off at 5:30 p.m. and are set to be held at Meyer Park, located at 400 E 22nd Ave. The series will feature a diverse range of musical talents, including Gulf Coast favorite Rhonda Hart, local artist Cameron DuBois with Bama Sound, and the Americana trio The Krickets
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – The city of Foley recognized volunteers who have helped drive beautification efforts around the community.
The Foley Revitalization and Beautification Advisory Board works on projects such as decorative plants, holiday decorations, plaques and other improvements around the city.
At the June 3 meeting of the Foley City Council, the city presented awards to several retiring members of the committee and acknowledged the work of all members of the board.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) announced in a press release that the demolition of the Beach Express Bridge toll plaza will begin Sunday night, June 16. The project, undertaken by McInnis Construction LLC of Summerdale, Alabama, aims to improve traffic flow and safety in the area. The demolition will begin with temporary traffic shifts and the removal of toll booths, followed by further stages that include the removal of the overhead plaza canopy and necessary road patching. Motorists are advised to stay alert if traveling through this demolition zone and plan their travels accordingly
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The Gulf Shores City Council gave the airport authority permission to move forward with a grant application with the FAA to get $5 million to build a passenger terminal. The goal is to have the terminal completed by summer of 2025.
“The airport was one of 144 airports nationwide to receive a grant for our airport terminal program,” City Administrator Jon Walker said. “The airport authority did receive $5 million that does require a match. As part of that the airport did solicit bids for this terminal project and at a meeting last week, they did open those bids and subsequently awarded the bid two days later to a Persons Services Corp.”

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – OWA Parks & Resort will host its sixth annual “Beyond the Moment” event on Friday, June 14. This event is in partnership with Magic Moments, an organization that grants wishes for children with chronic life-threatening illnesses in Alabama.
Over 275 guests will enjoy a complimentary day at OWA’s Tropic Falls, which includes an indoor and outdoor waterpark and a theme park. This event provides a fun family day for children and their families to celebrate and connect.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The time to submit an application for the Orange Beach Fire Rescue’s Intern Firefighter training program comes to a close on June 16th. The training will start September 15, 2024. This 13-week course allows participants to earn Firefighter I and II certifications from the Alabama Fire College and gain practical firefighting experience.
