Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf State Park, a popular destination known for its diverse recreational activities and natural beauty, is set to host its annual Shark Week event from Monday, July 10th to Friday, July 14th, 2023. The event will take place each day from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Gulf State Park Pier.

Shark Week attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of shark-related activities, including arts and crafts, a scavenger hunt, and educational programs. A highlight of the event will be a stingray touch tank, filled with various ray species native to the Gulf of Mexico, provided by the Marine Resources Division of Alabama Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources.

In addition to the touch tank, researchers from the Mississippi State University Marine Fisheries Ecology will be present to host a variety of engaging programs. The event aims to offer patrons a chance to dive deep into the incredible world of sharks.

The admission fee for Shark Week is $3 per person, which also includes the opportunity to sight see along the Gulf State Park Pier. There is also a $3 parking fee.

About Shark Week: Shark Week began as an annual, week-long TV programming block created by Tom Golden at the Discovery Channel. It was first broadcast on July 17, 1988. Since then, it has grown in popularity and is currently broadcast in over 72 countries. Each year's Shark Week is held in the summer, primarily in July or August.

Shark Week was initially developed to raise awareness and respect for sharks, which are often misunderstood and feared due to their portrayal in popular media.
