Gulf Shores Zydeco Fest expanding to two days in 2023

Weekend will kick off April 21 with a ticketed concert by Rebirth Brass Band

Gulf Shores, Alabama, expands Zydeco Fest to two days in 2023.

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf Shores is expanding to two days its annual Waterway Village Zydeco & Crawfish Festival on April 21-22.


“The City of Gulf Shores is excited to announce the Waterway Village will be filled with the sounds of Zydeco music for two days this year during the Waterway Village Zydeco & Crawfish Festival,” a release from the city states. The fun will take place on Friday, April 21, and Saturday, April 22, along East 24th Avenue.


Friday will feature a ticketed concert by the iconic Rebirth Brass Band out of New Orleans. Rebirth will take the stage from 7-9 p.m., with the opening act beginning at 6 p.m. Tickets are $29 each and can be purchased online by clicking here.


Crawfish will not be served at Friday's concert, but food trucks will be on site for those wanting to purchase food, and the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber will be present selling beer and wine. Click here for more information.


The good times will continue to roll on Saturday, April 22, with our traditional Zydeco & Crawfish Festival activities. Locals and visitors are invited to join us for this free family-friendly event and sink their teeth into hot, juicy crawfish throughout the day while dancing to the infectious rhythms of some of the best Zydeco bands from around the South. There will also be arts and crafts vendors and children's activities on site.


Saturday's festivities will kick off at 8 a.m., with the Zydeco Crawfish Festival 5K benefitting the Waterway Village Merchants Association. The fun will continue as art vendors open their tents at 9 a.m., crawfish pots begin boiling at 10 a.m., and Zydeco sounds continue grooving until 6 p.m.

This seventh annual event is a result of a unique collaboration between the City of Gulf Shores, the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber, Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Sports & Events, and Waterway Village merchants, including Acme Oyster House, Tacky Jacks, The Sloop, Beach Big Brewing Company, Gulf Coast Arts Alliance, Lulu’s, The Diner and Wheeles Karate Academy.

Recreational Red Grouper Fishing in Gulf of Mexico Pauses in July

Starting from July 1, 2024, at 12:01 am local time, recreational fishing for red grouper in the federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico will be prohibited. This closure, extending through the end of the year, is enforced by NOAA Fisheries due to the expected meeting of the annual catch target of 1,840,000 pounds gutted weight by June 30, 2024.

Foley Preparing Work to Transfer Beach Express to State

As Alabama prepares to buy the bridge at the southern end of the Foley Beach Express, city officials are continuing plans to improve the route before it becomes a state highway. The Alabama Department of Transportation has announced plans to buy the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in Orange Beach. State officials said the toll over the bridge will be eliminated when the purchase is completed.
