Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The 2024 spring break season in Gulf Shores, Alabama has come to a close, and the law enforcement has just released the arrest numbers. 

Over the course of the spring break period from March 1st to April 21st, the Gulf Shores Police Department made a total of 286 arrests. Last year almost 400 people were put behind bars. The majority of this year’s arrests, 141 in total, were for underage possession of alcohol.

Drug violations accounted for 80 arrests, while 17 people were arrested for public intoxication. Another 24 individuals were charged with driving under the influence. 

Thirteen arrests were made for obstruction of justice or resisting arrest, and 10 people were taken into custody for theft, including shoplifting. 

Tragically, there was also one arrest for assault in the first degree for a shooting incident that occurred on March 27th. 

The Gulf Shores Police Department has maintained a zero-tolerance policy for underage drinking and other illegal behavior during spring break. 

 As one spring breaker noted, "You just gotta stay safe out here, you've got people doing stupid stuff." 

While the majority of visitors enjoyed the beaches responsibly, there were some that didn’t. Local authorities will undoubtedly be reviewing these statistics and considering additional measures to ensure the safety and quality of life for both residents and tourists alike in future spring break seasons.
