Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — As of today the Gulf Shores International Airport has two new flight destinations that began this week. Allegiant Airlines launched nonstop service connecting Alabama's beaches to Appleton, Wisconsin, and Des Moines, Iowa. The new routes are designed to make travel easier for Midwest visitors who have traditionally made the long drive to the Gulf Coast.

The Appleton route began on Thursday, October 2, with the first flight arriving at 6:55 PM. The Des Moines service starts today, Friday, October 3, with an arrival at 6:26 PM. The flights were and will be greeted with water cannon salutes from airport fire trucks.

Drew Wells, Allegiant's chief commercial officer, expressed enthusiasm about the expansion. He said the airline is committed to bringing affordable air service to Alabama's coastline. The company's model focuses on all-nonstop flights at budget-friendly prices. Wells noted that this approach allows passengers to customize their vacations while staying within their budgets.

To celebrate the new routes, Allegiant offered introductory one-way fares starting at just $54. The promotional prices are available for limited dates and seats. Appleton travelers must book by October 4 for flights through December 24. Des Moines passengers have until October 5 to purchase tickets for travel through January 9, 2026.

Jesse Fosnaugh, airport director at Gulf Shores International Airport, welcomed the new connections. He explained that many snowbirds have been driving to Alabama's beaches for years. Now these visitors can skip the long road trip and take quick, affordable flights instead. The new service connects the communities of Appleton and Des Moines directly to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach.

Both routes will operate up to twice weekly throughout the season. Flight schedules and the lowest available fares can be found on Allegiant's website. The airline began commercial service at Gulf Shores International Airport earlier this summer. Since then, tourists and locals have praised the convenient service and accommodations.

The expansion continues for Gulf Shores International Airport. Allegiant is scheduled to begin direct service between Nashville and Gulf Shores on November 21, 2025. This will add another convenient option for travelers heading to Alabama's beautiful coastline. The airport is located at 1155 Commerce Drive in Gulf Shores.
