Foley Woman Loses Life in Gulf Shores Retention Pond Accident

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — A tragic accident took place in Gulf Shores this morning when emergency crews responded to a vehicle partially submerged in a retention pond. The incident happened near the Freestanding Emergency Department on the 3400 block of Gulf Shores Parkway. Several agencies rushed to the scene after the alarm was raised. Bystanders quickly joined officers and firefighters to help.
The response began at 11:17 AM on August 4, 2025, when Gulf Shores Police and Gulf Shores Fire/Rescue received the urgent call. The vehicle was sinking further into the pond when help arrived. Without hesitation, emergency workers and nearby citizens entered the water together, trying to save the person inside.
They managed to get the driver out of the vehicle as it continued to submerge. After bringing her to the bank, responders began resuscitation efforts right away. The driver, a 50-year-old woman from Foley, was quickly taken to the nearby Freestanding Emergency Department for continued lifesaving care.
Despite all the immediate assistance, the woman did not survive. Officials have not yet released her name. Police expressed their condolences to the woman’s family during this difficult time.
The Gulf Shores Police Department said the incident is under active investigation. They expect to share more details as facts become available. Local authorities have thanked the quick-thinking citizens who attempted to help rescue the driver alongside emergency crews.
