Closures and Altered Hours in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores

Orange Beach, Ala. - Gulf Shores, Ala. - (OBA) -  As the 4th of July approaches, residents and visitors of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores are gearing up to celebrate Independence Day. The cities of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores have released their holiday schedule. See the details below for each city.


Please remember that fireworks are illegal inside the city limits of Orange Beach and Gulf Shores. Click here for a list of fireworks shows in our area.

Orange Beach:
Orange Beach City offices closed Tuesday, July 4th: In observance of Independence Day, non-essential city offices will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th. Trash and recycling will not be affected. All routes will run as normal. Offices will open for normal hours on Wednesday, July 5th.


Gulf Shores:

In honor of Independence Day, the City of Gulf Shores will have the following facility closures and changes to regular hours of operations:
 

  • Police, fire, and other emergency services will remain open to ensure public safety and health. 
  • Administrative offices for the City of Gulf Shores will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 5, at 8 a.m.
  • The Thomas B. Norton Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
  • The Gulf Shores Museum will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Regular operation hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5. 
  • The Bodenhamer Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4. No fitness classes will be held at the Bodenhamer Recreation Center on July 4. Regular operations resume on Wednesday, July 5. 
  • The Cultural Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
  • The George C. Meyer Tennis Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Courts will be open and available for public use. Regular operation hours will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
  • The pickleball courts at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex will remain open and available for public use. 
  • The City Store will be closed on Tuesday, July 4. Regular operations will resume on Wednesday, July 5.
  • Republic Services Garbage and Recycling Services will run as scheduled. Yard debris/bulky pickup scheduled for Tuesday, July 4, will run on Monday, July 3 instead.

Baldwin EMC Battles Widespread Power Outages After Severe Storms

Baldwin EMC, a major electricity provider in Baldwin County, is currently grappling with widespread power outages affecting over 12,000 meters across the county. The outages were caused by severe storms that swept through the area early this morning, leaving a trail of damage in their wake.
Parlor Doughnuts Opens The 11th in Gulf Shores

The wait for a new sweet shop is over. Parlor Doughnuts is scheduled to open the doors to their new location in Gulf Shores. The store is located at 600 Gulf Shores Parkway. Their Grand Opening will be on May 11th, at 8AM.

The Orange Beach Makos Academics, Arts, and Athletics Club (MAAAC) awarded $10,000 in scholarships to five deserving high school seniors. The 2024 MAAAC Scholarship was distributed equally among the recipients, each receiving $2,000 to aid in their academic pursuits. MAAAC President, Matt Fetner, emphasized the club's commitment to fostering academic and personal growth among students. "These scholarships are a testament to the community's support for our youth," Fetner stated, underscoring the importance of the financial aid in promoting educational advancement.
Join the 2024 Orange Beach Citizen’s Public Safety Academy

The Orange Beach Police and Fire Departments are inviting citizens to join the 2024 Citizens' Public Safety Academy. The academy, scheduled from July 1 to August 12, 2024, aims to enhance understanding and cooperation between the community and emergency services. Classes, which are free of charge, will take place on Monday evenings from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
High School Graduations Set Across Baldwin County

A series of commencement ceremonies, set against the backdrop of diverse venues from stadiums to convention centers to performing arts centers, will mark this pivotal moment for students and their families. The graduation season kicks off on May 13th and wraps up on May 20th.
Tragic End to I-10 Standoff, Parts of I-10 West Bound Are Closed

A standoff on Interstate 10 in Baldwin County, Alabama, ended tragically when a suspect from Florida, wanted for a possible homicide, took their own life. The incident occurred near the Malbis exit, causing the closure of the westbound lanes near mile marker 40 for an extended period.
Gulf Shores Reevaluates Key Intersection Project

Several projects planned by the city of Gulf Shores have had to have redesigns and changes because of the skyrocketing costs of materials. Now, the improvement project for the intersection of County Road 6 or Oak Road West and State Route 59 are under the same scrutiny.

Gulf Shores police officer Gabe Trujilo has had a knack for being in the right place at the right time in his law enforcement career and in his previous post with the Montgomery Police Department. “During his time in Montgomery, he was awarded three life-saving awards, two mayoral commendation letters, the medal of valor, the officer of the month award and was awarded and recognized as the 2023 officer of the year,” Police Chief Ed Delmore said.
