Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley Public Library is bringing big trucks back. Kids can climb, touch, and learn. Families can meet the crews who keep the city moving. Organizers say safety and curiosity drive the event.

The second Big Rigs at the Library Touch a Truck takes place one week from tomorrow, on Saturday, October 11, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The free event takes place behind the library at 319 East Laurel Avenue.

City departments will roll in with machines that residents usually only see from a distance. Staff will answer questions and explain how each vehicle works. The goal is to connect children with the people and tools that keep Foley running.

Tractors, backhoes, trackhoes, and bucket trucks headline the lineup. Crews plan live demonstrations so visitors can watch equipment in action. The Foley Street Department is coordinating the display and bringing a range of heavy gear to the site.

Public safety vehicles will also be on scene. Foley Police will showcase department equipment and answer questions. The Foley Fire Department will let children see firefighting tools up close and learn about safety from firefighters.

A new draw this year is a helicopter. Organizers say the aircraft will be available for up-close viewing during the event window, weather and operations permitting. Families can photograph the helicopter and ask crews about its mission.

The event is designed for children of all ages. Supervised climbing and touching are encouraged where it is safe. Staff will guide families on what is allowed around each vehicle. The goal is hands-on learning without pressure or long lines.

Entertainment and snacks are part of the morning. Yard games will be set up near the display area. A giant sand pile gives younger kids a place to play. A one-man band will provide live music during the two-hour program.

Food and drink options will be on site. A local coffee truck plans to serve drinks and treats. Kona Ice will offer shaved ice. Families can take breaks between vehicle demos and return for more time with the rigs.

Library staff describe the gathering as a family-friendly community tradition in the making. Now in its second year, the format builds on last year’s response. Organizers expect a steady flow of visitors across the morning.

Admission is free and no registration is required. Residents and visitors are welcome. The location behind the library provides room for vehicles, games, and pedestrian access. Parking and directional signs will be posted near East Laurel Avenue.

For event details, call the Foley Public Library at 251-943-7665. Staff can answer questions about schedules, access, and featured vehicles.
