Baldwin Health In Top 5 Safest Hospitals In State
Local hospital is one of the safest in Alabama

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Among a list of Alabama hospitals receiving an "A" grade in safety only five made the grade. The list included Baldwin Health in Foley, Flowers Hospital in Dothan, North Baldwin Infirmary in Bay Minette, Riverview Regional Medical Center in Gadsden and Southeast Health Medical Center in Dothan.
The LeapFrog Group, a nonprofit founded 25 years ago, creates the list which works to improve hospital safety and quality nationwide. The biannual LeapFrog Hospital Safety Grade rates general hospitals from A to F based on their ability to prevent medical errors, infections, accidents and other avoidable harms.
Most of the top-rated hospitals are part of larger health systems, which is a growing trend around the nation. Hospitals that belong to multi-hospital networks often have more resources to standardize safety protocols, train staff and reduce preventable errors.
Alabama's Independent or smaller hospitals in the State were less likely to earn an "A," highlighting challenges some facilities face with staffing, equipment and the implementation of coordinated safety programs.
Among the 58 hospitals graded in Alabama, five earned an "A," nine earned a "B," 29 earned a "C," eight earned a "D," and three earned an "F" and four hospitals were not graded.
