Suspect Arrested in Wharf Parkway New Year’s Day Stabbing

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach police responded to a reported stabbing on Wharf Parkway in the early morning hours early on New Year’s Day. Officers arrived at the scene around just after midnight and found an adult male victim with an apparent stab wound.
Witnesses at the scene provided statements that helped police identify Shamar Ezell O’Brien Porter, an adult male, as the suspect in the assault.
Police located Porter a short time later, and he was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. No word on motive.
The incident remains under investigation, and authorities have not provided further details.

From May 1 through October 31, endangered sea turtles—including loggerheads, green sea turtles, and Kemp’s Ridleys—return to the beaches of Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Fort Morgan to lay their eggs. This ancient ritual is vital for the survival of these species, which are protected under the Endangered Species Act. Local volunteers and organizations are mobilizing to ensure the safety of both nesting turtles and their hatchlings.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) is reminding residents that a seasonal burn ban starts today, May 1st. It will continue through the end of October. The ban is aimed at protecting the air during the warmer months. Baldwin County is one of 12 counties in Alabama included in the ban.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – NOAA Fisheries is using advanced technology and artificial intelligence to gather better data on red snapper and reef fish in the Gulf of Mexico, according to a report from NOAA Fisheries on April 15, 2025. In February, NOAA tested new equipment aboard a research vessel. This technology combines video and acoustic cameras, echosounders, and artificial intelligence to estimate red snapper abundance even in poor visibility conditions.

Robertsdale, Ala. – (OBA) – The Baldwin County Probate and Revenue Offices at the Central Annex in Robertsdale will close temporarily for renovations. The closure begins May 1, 2025. Renovations are expected to take around ten months to complete. The goal is to upgrade the facility and improve services.

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach Parks and Recreation is inviting the community to take part in its State Park Trailhead Challenge. The event encourages outdoor activity and exploration.
Participants will complete four designated walking routes for a total of 15 miles. The program highlights trails on the east side of Gulf State Park.
