Gulf Shores, Ala. - (OBA) - The Gulf State Park Pier, which was damaged by Hurricane Sally in 2020, is set to undergo a $13 million repair project. The contract for the project has been awarded to MD Thomas Construction of Orange Beach, who will also be working on repairs at Perdido Pass Park. The project is expected to begin in earnest before November 1st.

The pier, which has been a popular destination for fishing and sightseeing, suffered significant damage during Hurricane Sally. Just one day after a $2 million project to install an observation deck on the octagon and new decking and railing was completed.

According to State conservation director Chris Blankenship, work on the pier itself can begin earlier than November 1, but water work will have to wait until after turtle season. This is to ensure that the repairs do not disturb the nesting and hatching of sea turtles in the area.

The Gulf State Park Pier is an important landmark in the Gulf Shores area, attracting tourists and locals alike. The pier offers stunning views of the Gulf of Mexico and is a popular spot for fishing, with a variety of fish species found in the waters around the pier.
