Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – After 15 years of dedicated service, Gulf Shores Police Chief Ed Delmore has announced his retirement, effective immediately. Mayor Robert Craft informed the city council of Chief Delmore’s intent during a meeting on Monday, February 17, 2025. Chief Delmore will stay on the force as a special investigator until the end of his term, which ends in November.

Chief Delmore's law enforcement career began in 1979 as a police dispatcher in a suburb of St. Louis. He became a police officer in 1982 in Southwestern Illinois and has since served in various capacities, including patrol officer, undercover narcotics investigator, patrol sergeant, watch commander, deputy chief, and chief of police. In 2010, he took the helm of the Gulf Shores Police Department, leading with distinction and commitment.

Under Chief Delmore's leadership, the Gulf Shores Police Department has seen numerous advancements and has maintained a steadfast commitment to community safety. His tenure has been marked by a focus on proactive policing and community engagement.

Mayor Craft expressed his gratitude for Chief Delmore's unwavering dedication to the city, stating, "Chief Delmore has been an integral part of our community, leading our police department with honor and integrity. His contributions have been invaluable, and he will be greatly missed."

As the city embarks on the search for a new police chief, Deputy Police Chief Dan Netemeyer will serve as the interim chief. The city council is expected to discuss the process for selecting a permanent replacement in the coming weeks.
