Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — At this afternoon’s meeting, the Gulf Shores City Council will evaluate major public safety purchases and a major community recreation project. Council members will review resolutions to purchase an upgraded vehicle barrier system, specialized crime-scene mapping equipment, and construction services to replace the Kids Park.

The regular council meeting is scheduled for this afternoon, Mon, Sep 28, 2026, at 4 PM in Gulf Shores City Hall's Council Chambers. Mayor Robert Craft and city council members will address the agenda items.

Upgrading Law Enforcement Tools and Recreation

The council will consider a resolution to purchase an MVB3X Vehicle Barrier System from Advanced Security Technologies, LLC. The sole-source purchase is capped at $205,000 and will be funded by a capital transfer to the police capital line item, not originally budgeted in 2026.

Council members will also review a proposal from Faro Technologies, Inc., for a Faro 3D Crime Scene Mapping Camera System. The draft resolutions for the camera system present conflicting total costs, citing $73,500 in one section and $75,300 in another, both referencing an unbudgeted 2026 capital transfer to the police capital account.

At Recreation, officials will vote on a contract with Leathers & Associates for the Kids Park replacement construction, capped at $1,100,000. To fund an improved surfacing option and align with the primary construction timeline, the city plans to reduce the 2026 capital budget allocation to $250,000 and allocate the remaining $850,000 in the 2027 Capital Budget.

During the regular session, the council will also:

• Hear an invocation led by Todd Forrest, Lead Pastor at Anchor Point Church.
• Consider approving minutes from the Sep 14 regular meeting and the Sep 21 work session.
• Review city expense vouchers.
• Present a proclamation designating October 2026 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
• Hold a public hearing on an ABC Restaurant Retail Liquor license application from SNS Operations LLC for Sea And Suds Restaurant at 405 East Beach Blvd.
• Consider resolutions to amend the Controlled Parking Resolution and the Municipal Code of Ordinances regarding parking.
• Review performance contracts for the 2027 Winter Entertainment Series totaling up to $56,000.
• Consider an ordinance granting Suncoast Beach Services, Inc. a two-year nonexclusive franchise renewal for beach equipment rental concessions through December 31, 2028.
• Receive reports from council committees and city staff.
• Hold an open hearing for remarks from persons not listed on the formal agenda.
