Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf Shores is considering spending $337,306 to Volkert to design phase 2 of the Beach Walking District sidewalk and pedestrian improvement plan.
“The city has substantially completed the Beach Walking District sidewalk and pedestrian improvements phase 1,” a memo to the council states. “This project provided new roadway, parking, sidewalk, landscaping, lighting and stormwater infrastructure for the four blocks surrounding the intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 182. Phase 2 will continue those improvements along East First Avenue between East Second Street and East Third Street.”
The Volkert proposal is about 13 percent of the total project cost and includes:
“The Beach Walking District is one of the city’s five action items in our Vision 2025 Strategic Plan and was envisioned ‘as a walkable, energetic beachfront district that will attract tourism, stimulate local businesses and encourage business and residential relocation,’” the Nov. 21 agenda states.
