Gulf Shores Closes City Facilities Due to Severe Weather

Inclement Weather Forces Gulf Shores to Close City Buildings
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The City of Gulf Shores announced several closures on Wednesday, April 10, due to expected threatening weather conditions. According to a press release from the city (Source: City of Gulf Shores), the following facilities will be closed starting at 2 p.m.:
Closed Facilities
- All administrative offices
- Bodenhamer Recreation Center
- Gulf Shores Public Library
- Gulf Shores City Store
- Gulf Shores Cultural Center
- George C. Meyer Tennis Center
- Gulf Shores Museum
- Emergency Services Remain Open
However, the city's police, fire, and other emergency services will remain operational to ensure public safety and health during the severe weather event.
Regular Hours to Resume Thursday
The press release stated that regular business hours for the closed facilities will resume on Thursday, April 11. Citizens with questions or concerns were advised to call 251-968-2425.
The closures were announced as a precautionary measure to protect the safety of residents and visitors in Gulf Shores. Local meteorologists have been tracking the potential for severe thunderstorms, high winds, and heavy rainfall in the area throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Perdido Key, Fla. – (OBA) – A mix of green and loggerhead sea turtles, ranging from juveniles to adults, were released Wednesday morning into the Gulf of Mexico after being rehabilitated. The turtles had been accidentally hooked by fishermen off local fishing piers and were treated at the Gulfarium's CARE Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Two requests before the Orange Beach Planning Commission for housing developments near Sam’s store and northwest of Caswell received unfavorable recommendations from the panel. But that doesn’t mean the developments won’t proceed.
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The pedestrian bridge planned in Gulf Shores over the Intracoastal Waterway at East Second Street is still in the design phase, Mayor Robert Craft said following a regular council meeting on May 13.
Ryan Shamburger, general manager of Big Beach Brewing and a resident of the neighborhood framed by East Second Street and Canal Road, said several of the residents approached him with questions about the bridge. He asked for an update on the construction.
Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – A Foley man was arrested and charged with assault after shooting his brother during an altercation on Monday. According to the Foley Police Department, 28-year-old Deion McMillan was shot in the leg by his brother, Quave McMillan, 31, at their family property on Airport Road.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The city of Orange Beach is hosting a blood drive in partnership with LifeSouth Community Blood Centers. Scheduled for Thursday, May 16, 2024, this vital community event will take place at the Orange Beach City Hall, located at 4099 Orange Beach Blvd. The LifeSouth Bloodmobile will be on site from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to facilitate the donations.

Orange Beach Parks and Recreation has announced a fun and artsy contest where participants can showcase their skills by designing decorative birdhouses.

Superintendent Matt Akin announced to the City Council that the celebration would take place on Wednesday the 15th at LuLu's in Gulf Shores. The festivities will begin at 6 PM.
