Gulf Shores And Orange Beach Issue Voluntary Evacuation Ahead Of Isaias
Officials warn of storm surge, high winds, and flooding risks
Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach are urging non-residents and residents of flood-prone areas to voluntarily evacuate ahead of Isaias. Forecasters expect Isaias to strengthen into a significant hurricane before reaching the coast. The storm is expected to bring high winds, storm surge, and flooding to the area. Officials say these hazards could severely disrupt access to public safety and critical utility systems.
On October 7, 2026, both cities issued a joint statement urging all non-permanent residents to leave immediately and relocate to a safer location. City officials said that departing early would reduce congestion, support emergency operations, and protect the most vulnerable during the storm.
Gulf Shores Mayor Robert Craft emphasized the urgency of the situation. "Our first responsibility is to safeguard lives and ensure that emergency services and utility crews can operate effectively as conditions worsen," Craft said. "We strongly urge all visitors to take this seriously and move to safer accommodations without delay."
Orange Beach Mayor Tony Kennon echoed that message. "We haven't had a voluntary evacuation in a long time, so we don't take it lightly," Kennon said. "Please help us by leaving the Islands so that we do what needs to be done."
Both cities said they would continue monitoring the storm's track and intensity. Officials are asking residents and visitors to follow official city communication channels for the latest information and instructions as conditions evolve.
