Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Another new business is poised to take advantage of Foley’s extension of South Juniper Street. The new roadway extends from County Road 20 south to make a westerly turn to an intersection with State Route 59. It was completed in November of 2022, according to the city’s website. At the next planning commission will meet to discuss a site plan for a new BJ’s Wholesale Club on a 14.27-acre parcel on South Juniper Street.

The commission will meet in a joint regular/work session on July 16 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at city hall.

Staff will recommend approval of the BJ’s site plan on two lots currently owned by Woerner Land, according to county records.

BJ’s first started under the Zayre name in 1984 and, after some corporate shake ups in the next decade, emerged as an independent company in 1997 and is based in Natick, Massachusetts.

There are 264 BJ’s locations in the eastern U.S. with the closest being in Pensacola in the southeast corner of the intersection of I-10 and I-110. BJ’s has more than 34,000 employees.

During the joint session, the commission will also discuss:

  • Granting a six-month extension for the Grasslands development located east of County Road 65 and south of Dairy Lane with 75.51 acres and 258 lots. Staff will recommend approval of the extension.
  • Approval of a preliminary subdivision of the Foley Beach Express West Industrial Park phase two located north of Doc McDuffie Road and west of the Foley Beach Express. The parcel is 114 acres and owned by the city. Staff will recommend approval.
