Update: Boy, 13, killed when struck by dump truck in Gulf Shores

Witnesses sought in fatal Gulf Shores bicyclist-dump truck collision
UPDATE: Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – A 13-year-old male pronounced deceased at the scene after colliding with a dump truck.
- On May 24, 2023 at approximately 1:10 PM, a 13-year-old male was riding an electric bike on the sidewalk in the 200 block of Gulf Shores Parkway.
- The juvenile was riding south bound when he lost control of the bike and fell into the southbound lane of traffic.
- A waste container truck was traveling southbound on Gulf Shores Parkway and struck the male in the roadway.
- A lifeguard with Gulf Shores Beach Rescue arrived on the scene almost immediately and attempted to provide aid. Gulf Shores Fire Rescue were unable to resuscitate him.
- Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is assisting with the investigation.
- The juvenile was visiting Gulf Shores from Gainestown, Alabama.

PREVIOUS STORY: Gulf Shores, Ala. - (OBA) - A fatal accident in Gulf Shores, Alabama resulted in the death of a bicyclist after a collision with a dump truck in the 200 block of Gulf Shores Parkway, according to the Gulf Shores Police Department. The tragic incident, which occurred on May 24, 2023, around 1:15 pm, is currently under investigation.
When the police officers arrived on the scene, Fire and Emergency Medical Services were already there and had verified the bicyclist's death. The name of the victim is yet to be released, pending notification of the next of kin.
Authorities have warned of potential traffic delays in the area as the accident site is being cleared and traffic rerouted.
Sergeant Chad Lambert, who is overseeing the investigation, is urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation. They can reach him directly at 251-968-2431.

The University of Alabama is relaunching its past tour event, "Crimson Caravan," as the new and improved "Tide on Tour." The Orange Beach Police Department had a relatively quiet Spring Break, compared to previous years. Arrests were down by almost 70% in 2024.
The number of arrests during the 2023 spring break season was close to 200. According to the data just released, there were a total of 61 arrests directly related to spring break activities. The majority of the arrests, 48 in total, were for minors in possession of alcohol. An additional 4 arrests were made for public intoxication, 3 arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) and 5 arrests for drug-related offenses. There was also 1 arrest that involved a combination of drug and alcohol charges.
On Saturday, April 20, 2024, a diver from Louisiana was found dead in the water at The Wharf Marina in Orange Beach.
According to the Orange Beach Police Department, the diver had been cleaning his boat around 7:30 AM but did not resurface. Officers were called to the scene around 1:00 PM and discovered the diver's body after deploying multiple dive teams.

Publix is continuing its expansion across Alabama with the announcement of a new store opening in Gulf Shores.
The new Publix supermarket will be located on Gulf Shores Parkway near Zaxby's, replacing a former Winn-Dixie building. The new store will host a grand opening on April 24th at 7:00am and will occupy a 65,000-square-foot space in the Paradise Isle Shopping Center.
