growing number of coastal Alabama politicians are calling on Gov. Kay Ivey to convene a meeting of the state’s Toll Road, Bridge and Tunnel Authority and talk about whether the I-10 Mobile River Bridge and Bayway project should be financed through tolls. U.S. Rep. Bradley Byrne, R-Fairhope, and Alabama Auditor Jim Zeigler both said it would be beneficial for the Ivey to have the nine-member group meet so alternatives to the current toll plan for the $2.1 billion project can be vetted and discussed.

$90 monthly pass highlights latest toll plan for I-10 Mobile River Bridge project – al.com

A $90 monthly pass will be introduced by the Alabama Department of Transportation on Wednesday as the latest tolling proposal for frequent users of the future Interstate 10 Bridge and Bayway. The pass will be available for purchase for all owners of Class 1 vehicles (cars, pickup trucks, motorcycles and any vehicle that doesn’t involve pulling a trailer), pre-paid monthly for unlimited trips.

The Alabama Department of Transportation says it will evaluate the toll rate for the new I-10 bridge over the Mobile River, but it still plans to charge drivers to go over the bridge. In May, the department held public meetings in Mobile and Baldwin County where many people expressed frustration with the plan to charge a toll for the new bridge and expanded Bayway. The proposed toll rate was $3 to $6 with a discount for frequent users.
