America’s Cup sailboat American Magic in Pensacola for winter training

New York Yacht Club American Magic, U.S. Challenger for the 36th America’s Cup, today announced that the Port of Pensacola will serve as the team’s winter training base in late 2018 and early 2019. The team was formed in 2017 to win the America’s Cup, the highest prize in sailing and the oldest trophy in international sports.

Donations needed to help elderly residents heat their homes

PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) -- Thousands of senior citizens in Northwest Florida struggle to heat their homes each winter according to Josh Newby with the Council on Aging. Newby says the council is looking for donations of blankets and space heaters. He says they are in desperate need of help. Mary Jane Walker is 63-years-old and lives in Pensacola with her six grandchildren. She had a stroke five years ago and she's unable to work. She says she has no way to heat her home.

After unsuccessful 2018, ferry operator says service will end

The operator of Pensacola's new passenger ferry service announced Tuesday that it is unlikely his company will renew its contract with National Park Service next year. "It now appears that, despite our best efforts, our ferry operations will be coming to an end," Capt. George Aswad, owner of Gulf Coast Marine Services, Inc., said in a lengthy statement emailed to the Pensacola News Journal.

When Saya and Brad Barnes got engaged four months ago, they never imagined the life they’d be living now. "Put the mattress on top of us again and everything was shaking it was like trains everywhere,” said Saya Barnes. “It just came at us. We sat together and prayed. We said, ‘Please God, just please save us. '"Their home, businesses and everything they owned in Panama City were destroyed by Hurricane Michael. However, one thing did withstand the storm — their love for each other.

Mary Rice return to Alabama on murder charge could take decades

(WKRG) -- Convicted murderer Mary Rice has begun her life sentence in Florida after being convicted last week in the murder spree with Billy Boyette that spanned three states and resulted in the murders of four women. But, her legal battles aren't over. She will still be tried in Baldwin County for the murder of Peggy Broz. The question is, when?

Couple facing child porn charges in Baldwin County, federal court | WPMI

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — Michael David Kirk has been charged in Mobile Federal Court with Conspiracy to Produce Child Pornography. The four-count federal indictment handed down in early September includes two counts of Attempted Production of Child Pornography and two counts of Attempted Enticement of a Child.

Future repairs to Fort Pickens Road up for vote | WEAR

(WEAR) — Nature has been both an enemy and a blessing for Fort Pickens Road.During storms, often several feet of beach sand and sea water overtops the roadway and forces the seashore to close the road for days, weeks, or months at a time.Gulf Island National Seashore Superintendent Dan Brown said the next time Fort Pickens Road is destroyed by a storm, they could decide not to repair it.
