Governor Ivey Announces Alabama Tourism Growth of $1.2 Billion | Kay Ivey – Governor of Alabama

MONTGOMERY – Governor Kay Ivey on Monday announced at a press conference that one million more people visited Alabama in 2018 than ever before and spent $15.5 billion, which was $1.2 billion higher than the previous year, according to the state’s annual economic impact report produced by Montgomery economist Dr. Keivan Deravi for the Alabama Tourism Department. The industry attracted more than 27.7 million visitors, which paid $954 million in state and local taxes, saving the average Alabama family $507 from additional taxes to maintain current service levels.

Baldwin County residents launch campaign opposing tolls for Mobile River Bridge project | WPMI

BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. (WPMI) — Baldwin County residents have launched a campaign opposing tolls proposed by ALDOT to pay for the $2 billion Mobile River Bridge and Bayway replacement project. According to the Alabama Department of Transportation, the segmented tolls would be issued by license plate, and range from $3 to $6 dollars depending on a motorists route.

Advisory Board Approves Flounder, Seatrout Changes

May 10, 2019 - Orange Beach, AL - (OBA®) - The length and bag limits of two of Alabama’s most popular inshore fish species will likely change soon after proposals by the Alabama Marine Resources Division were approved last weekend by the Alabama Conservation Advisory Board. Under the new regulations, spotted seatrout (speckled trout) and southern flounder will have reduced bag limits to deal with concerns that the species are not able to sustain healthy populations.

Bill to prohibit cities from banning plastic bags fails – al.com

Chris Elliott, R-Daphne, a former Baldwin County Commissioner, said he was not aware of any communities moving to restrict plastic containers but said the proposed legislation might prompt some to consider it. ALDOT to hold public meetings on proposed Bayway bridge | WPMI

The Alabama Department of Transportation is holding two public hearings this week about the proposed Bayway bridge. ALDOT says people will be able to look at the project details, ask questions and provide comments that will go on the public record. The first meeting will be Tuesday, May 7, from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Spanish Fort Community Center.

A few showers are likely this morning before thunderstorms arrive in the afternoon. There will be a few strong storms and a small risk of a severe storm, so be weather aware. Average rain amounts will be between a half inch and ¾ of an inch, but those can easily be double or triple under slow-moving downpours. Straight line wind will be our biggest concern from strong storms, followed by the possibility of hail. There will also be a small risk of a brief tornado. Kahney’s book notes that Cook is the son of a shipyard worker and a part-time pharmacist, and that his beginnings were working class. For a time, the family moved to Pensacola before settling in on East Silverhill Avenue in Robertsdale when Cook was in middle school. He was later salutatorian of his graduating class in 1978 and voted “most studious.” “He was just the kind of person you liked to be around,” one teacher stated. He worked part-time at a pharmacy and delivered the Press-Register.
