Kay Ivey wanted to talk about her accomplishments at the Alabama County Commissioners Convention at Orange Beach, but the nagging issue of the bridge toll continue to hound her. I wanted to get her take on how she was going to answer her critics. She's been taking a lot of heat for saying there can be no Mobile River Bridge without tolls. But now, she's on the offensive, challenging the anti-toll people to come to the table with solutions, and not their concerns about how much they might have to pay.

Alabama shatters record for number of people working – al.com

Alabama’s economy set records for the most people employed and the lowest unemployment rate in July, Labor Secretary Fitzgerald Washington announced today. July’s preliminary, seasonally adjusted unemployment rate is 3.3 percent, beating the record of 3.5 percent set in June. The rate represents 2.17 million employed people, about 11,000 more than the previous month.

Amanda Bryant is a Fairhope resident who travels to Semmes to help her sister, who is a small business owner that has to travel between Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and the Eastern Shore. Byrant’s husband works in Bayou La Batre, and her entire family commutes frequently across the Interstate 10 Bayway. A proposed $6 toll, she said, will “devastate our ability to support each other as a family.”

It will soon be a crime in Alabama to misrepresent a pet as a service animal – al.com

People who falsely claim their pet is a service animal could soon face criminal charges in Alabama. Starting Sept. 1, there will be a criminal penalty for those who misrepresent a pet as a service animal or animal-in-training in public spaces or when seeking housing accommodations in Alabama. Making false claims will be a Class C misdemeanor resulting in a $100 fine and 100 hours of community service to be performed with an organization that serves people with disabilities or one approved by the court.

Alabama Announces Two Additional Days of Red Snapper Season for Private Anglers

August 13, 2019 - Orange Beach, AL - (OBA®) - After completing a review of the 2019 private angler red snapper season through August 5, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has determined two additional days can be added to the private angler recreational season. The additional days will begin 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019, and run until midnight on Sunday, September 1, 2019.

FAIRHOPE, Ala. (WPMI) — Could ALDOT's proposed tolls for the Bayway Bridge project lead to a new transportation option across Mobile Bay? ALDOT’s plan to toll the Mobile River Bridge project has generated heated opposition in Mobile and Baldwin Counties, but it has also inspired talks of alternative transportation along the Eastern Shore.
