Dauphin Island Race disaster victim’s mother fears Coast Guard report may not change culture – al.com

This fourth anniversary of 17-year-old Adam Clark’s death in the 2015 Dauphin Island Race will be the first one in which his family has whatever closure it can draw from a U.S. Coast Guard report on the disaster. That's some, said his mother, Angie Tew, but never enough: "It's just this hunger for information because we want to know as much as we can about his last moments," she said.

Cliff’s Landing closed for paving – dock repairs will have to wait | fox10tv.com

A popular landing in Baldwin County will be shut down for the next few days for maintenance. Recent flood waters have delayed a paving project at Cliff’s Landing and left other damage behind. Because the county and state share maintenance responsibilities there, it could be more than a month before some of the repairs are made.

Terry Cove in Orange Beach to be no-wake zone – Lagniappe Mobile

It’s no secret there’s a shortage of roads to handle traffic on the Alabama Gulf Coast, brought on by year after year of record tourism. That same problem is spilling over onto waterways around Orange Beach, creating a shortage of space for boats to operate safely. Overcrowding is prompting the state to implement a new no-wake zone in Terry Cove.

Corps undertaking full dredging of Perdido Pass – Lagniappe Mobile

Once again, U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby stepped up to get funding to dredge Perdido Pass in Orange Beach, just ahead of the coming fishing season.

“At least the second time,” city Coastal Resources Director Phillip West said of Shelby’s efforts. “He’s definitely our friend in that regard. And the Corps [Army Corps of Engineers]. We all owe him a big thank you for getting this done. The pass is definitely in dire need of dredging. Especially when the big boats start rolling out for the late spring tournaments. This ought to put us in pretty good shape.”

America’s Cup sailboat American Magic in Pensacola for winter training

New York Yacht Club American Magic, U.S. Challenger for the 36th America’s Cup, today announced that the Port of Pensacola will serve as the team’s winter training base in late 2018 and early 2019. The team was formed in 2017 to win the America’s Cup, the highest prize in sailing and the oldest trophy in international sports.
