Officials hopeful boats will race in Orange Beach in April

January 22, 2020
For the first time since 2013, boats could be screaming by beaches crowded with race fans there and on condo balconies with races on schedule to return to Orange Beach in April. If organizers Gary Nichols and Race World Offshore 2020 race Director Damon Collins have their way the big boats will return during April 17-19 or the weekend before the Flora-Bama’s iconic Mullet Toss weekend. Collins said the course will remain basically the same – it will start just east of Perdido Pass and go west for a little over 3 miles mile and then a loop back to the pass – but it may be extended some for the 2020 races.

Port of Pensacola 1: American Magic | WUWF

January 04, 2020
The team moved from Rhode Island to Pensacola in 2018, and Hutchinson says they fast-tracked the move into about a four-week period. “Why Pensacola? You really only have to look out at [Pensacola Bay], then out to the [Gulf of Mexico] to understand why,” said Hutchinson. “Because it’s probably one of the best natural sailing theaters in the country for what we’re doing. What makes it really, really good is the flat water that the bay has, and the unobstructed wind field. And then from there, you go out into the Gulf of Mexico and it’s even that much better.”
