Alabama Lifestyles EXPO Feb. 5 at Caribe Resort

The 23rd Annual Alabama Lifestyles EXPO is scheduled on Thursday, February 5 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Caribe The Resort in Orange Beach. AL Lifestyles EXPO is a free public event. Covered onsite parking is plentiful and attendees can drop passengers off at any one of the three exhibit hall entrances. In addition to door prizes and numerous giveaways, $100 will be awarded at 2 p.m., and you need not be present to win.

GULF SHORES, Ala, — Brats are not just for snowbirds anymore. Kenn Krouse, this year’s organizer of the annual Bratfest, says it’s a snowbird-driven event and organized event, but everybody is welcome to stop by for a $4 brat with all the fixings and you can add a soda or coffee for $1. More local involvement, Krouse said, has led to complete sellouts the past few years.

FOLEY, Ala. — Nine winter visitors won prizes for participating in the “Find It in Foley” treasure hunt, held in conjunction with the 4th annual Visit Foley Coffee on Jan. 13. The coffee is hosted each year by the city of Foley and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce to welcome winter guests and provide them with information about things to see and do in Foley and nearby areas.

January 19, 2015 — Orange Beach, AL (OBA) — Classical guitarist Peter Fletcher returns to Orange Beach on Feb. 5 for a performance at the Orange Beach Senior Activity Center. This concert is part of a nationwide tour, under the auspices of Phillip Truckenbrod Concert Artists, to promote Fletcher’s new Edvard Grieg CD, released in February by Centaur Records.

The city of Foley and the South Baldwin Chamber of Commerce extend a warm welcome to all winter visitors and invite everyone to attend the fourth annual Foley Snowbird Coffee on Tuesday, Jan. 13. The coffee will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Foley Civic Center. In addition to enjoying coffee and doughnuts, guests will receive information about things to see and do in Foley and the surrounding areas.

A line stretched down the road even before the doors opened at 9 a.m. as Pleasure Island’s winter guests braved a slight chill.

Iowa snowbirds to hear about Share the Beach turtle program Jan. 14

January 5, 2015 – Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – The Iowa-Alabama Snowbird Club will meet for breakfast Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 8:30 a.m. at the the Perdido Beach Resort, 27200 Perdido Beach Blvd. in Orange Beach. Breakfast will be served in the Ballroom Conference Center for $9. Guest speaker, Linda Spangrud of Foley, will explain the fascinating “Share the Beach” volunteer effort to save the sea turtles along the local Gulf Coast.

GULF SHORES, Alabama – With Christmas in the rear-view mirror, Baldwin County’s beach population will begin to grow by the thousands as snowbirds mostly from Midwestern states arrive for some winter respite. While some of the winter visitors begin arriving each year in October, the majority of them hit the road after the holidays and check in at condos starting in January.

December 29, 2014 – Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – The Wisconsin Sno-bird Club will be meeting at a NEW location inJanuary and February – the Orange Beach Event Center (OBEC) just west of the Wharf. Please remember this for our first meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 7. We meet at 8:30 a.m. for coffee and donuts with the meeting beginning at 9 a.m.

Indiana snowbirds to have first breakfast on Jan. 8

December 26, 2014 – Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) – Things are already forming up for the Indiana Snowbird Club for 2015. The first official breakfast planned for the Indiana Snowbird Club will be Jan. 8, at Lulu’s. Lulu’s doors open for breakfast at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast being served at 8 or 8:15. Our very first program will be one that is almost a tradition for us — Herb Malone of the Convention and visitor’s Bureau will welcome the snowbird season back again and tell us of what’s been happening in the area since his last report a year ago.

October 14, 2014 – Gulf Shores, AL (GSA) – On Oct. 14, the City of Gulf Shores officially released the lineup for the 2015 Entertainment Series. The Entertainment Series, now in its 28th year at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center, will feature 11 shows from six different acts ranging from Grammy Award winners and multi-platinum artists to American music pioneers.

Weatherman visits Wisconsin snowbirds in Orange Beach

March 2, 2014 – Orange Beach, AL (OBA) – The Wisconsin Sno-bird Club met at Orange Beach Community Center (OBCC) on Thursday, Feb. 20, with WKRG (TV Channel 5) Meteorologist, Alan Sealls, as our speaker.

The New York native worked at WMTJ-Milwaukee (cheers), WGN-Chicago (boos) and Atlanta before coming to Mobile in 1999. We enjoyed being able to ask “the weatherman” questions about himself and the behind-the-scenes work to make the weather understandable.

GULF SHORES, AL – Ohio Snowbirds had their second to last meeting at LuLu’s Homeport Marina on Feb. 19 with 85 members in attendance, including two new people. Our current membership is 161. President Bob Hofacker led the Pledge of Allegiance and Don Thrash gave the blessing followed by some of his famous jokes.

ORANGE BEACH, Alabama — The Wisconsin Sno-bird Club met for one last meeting of the season at the Orange Beach Community Center (OBCC) on March 20.

The sno-birds presented a $1,000 scholarship to Gulf Shores High School student Briana Lucas. Lucas will attend the Honors College at the University of Alabama studying Psychology leading to a degree in medicine.
