Monday evening on Royal Street, patrons sitting in front of Veet’s Bar & Grill enjoyed the breeze while wondering just when the persistent thunder of a looming storm would translate into rain. Inside, in an upstairs room, a different kind of rumble was building.”No kiss, no kiss goodbye,” sang Beverly Jo Scott, accompanied by Eric Erdman on acoustic guitar, Brandon White on electric guitar and John Keuler on bass. The sheet music in front of White served as notice that this, like the conditions outside, was merely a prelude to the real show.
When Beverly Jo Scott wants to unwind from her whirlwind European life and relax, refuel and have fun, her thoughts turn to home. “My family’s here, my roots – I’m born and raised here,” she said. “Nobody’s telling me ‘wow, what an accent.’ It’s primordial for me. My roots are here. My branches are in Europe but my feet are firmly planted in the Gulf Coast.”

Athens-based jam band Widespread Panic’s concert in Orange Beach, Ala., last Friday turned out not to be quite as disruptive to Memorial Day weekend as city officials feared.
Still, though, city officials, along with amphitheater owners where the band played and the promoters for the venue, are likely to be focused on Orange Beach’s commitment to family friendliness in booking future acts for The Amphitheater at The Wharf, City Administrator Ken Grimes said Wednesday.
