Having achieved notoriety as the Jewish-Texan songwriter behind such deliberately provocative gems as “They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore,” he went on to make headlines as an author and as a Lone Star gubernatorial candidate, under the memorable slogan “Why the hell not?”

Alabama gets kudos on Southern Living list of ‘South’s Most Iconic Music Venues and Festivals’ | AL.com

Alabama gets high marks today in Southern Living, as the magazine lists “The South’s Most Iconic Music Festivals and Venues.”

Three festivals and one concert venue in our state make the grade, covering points in North, Central and South Alabama. They’re in good company, listed alongside major events such as the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, South by Southwest and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

As if scheduling your Joe Cain Day wasn’t already hard enough – How many brunches can one person attend before missing the parade due to multiple organ failure? – Cathe Steele at Blue Moon Farm has gone and put Kinky Friedman on the program.

Yes. Steele has released the winter/spring schedule for the Frog Pond at Blue Moon Farm, one of Lower Alabama’s finest forums for singer-songwriters and their fans. Offbeat Texan troubadour Friedman, possibly the most famous/infamous artist to have appeared at the outdoor venue near Silverhill, will return on Feb. 7, the Sunday before Fat Tuesday.

Chris Young coming to The Wharf on April 16 – GulfCoastNewsToday.com: News

ORANGE BEACH, AL – Chris Young is the latest addition to The Wharf Amphitheater and tickets go on sale Jan. 29 for his April 16 show.

Tickets will be available at The Wharf ticket office or through Ticketmaster and are $55 for general admission or reserved seating at $55, $39.50 or $20, plus other fees and service charges. Special guest will be Cassadee Pope.

Buffett, 69, a country-pop star, grew up in Mobile and Fairhope. He and the Coral Reefers made their last appearance in the Birmingham area in February 2012 at the BJCC’s Legacy Arena. The venue was packed with about 14,000 ticketholders, many of them decked out in parrot heads, shark-fin visors, Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts and other tropical attire.
